For many families, watching children grow up alongside a family pet is a true joy. As their bond strengthens, children learn to care for and nurture their furry friends. However, along the way, they may encounter some challenging topics, like when a pet gets sick. These subjects can sometimes be difficult to rationalise to the little people in your life.
Vetsure for Kids Pet Packs help families navigate these tough conversations, offering guidance on how to explain difficult subjects in a child-friendly way. The packs cover topics like common pet diseases, Christmas with pets and welcoming home a new pet. More sensitive issues like losing a pet are also covered.
My name is Amey and I’m a Technical Claims Specialist here at Vetsure. As an animal lover, I started my career as a veterinary nurse. Now as a parent and pet owner of two energetic hounds, I know first-hand how tricky pet care can be—especially with little ones!
That’s why I created the Vetsure for Kids Pet Packs, designed to help grownups navigate the complexities of pet ownership with children. Every child is unique, so feel free to tailor the information to your child’s needs and pace.
Alongside these, I have introduced our Social Stories for neurodiverse children. This is a subject close to my heart as both myself and my daughter have autism.
I hope these guides support you on your pet care journey, and I’d love to hear from you about your own experience with our guides!
Each pack focuses on a particular area of pet ownership that may need explaining to your child. The packs include child friendly wording, as well as important safety information to keep your family and your pet happy and healthy.
Each pack has a page for your child to draw in and show their creative flair, and we would love to see their artistic creations. This can be sent to us via email, so you can keep the original as pride of place on your fridge.
Finally, a certificate is included in each pack to reward your child for their kindness and give a sense of achievement for all their hard work.
Our Pet Packs aim to introduce new concepts to children in a friendly and easy to understand way. Some of these topics can be challenging to navigate as a parent, so we truly hope these packs help guide you on your pet care journey.

We are excited to introduce our Vetsure for Kids Social Stories, aimed at helping families with neurodiverse children navigate vet visits and pet care.
Our Social Stories are structured to suit children who may find sitting still a bit of a bore, those who need more support with less words and those who go to the beat of their own drum. We don’t want to stifle their sparkle; we want to follow where they take us and hopefully help along the way.
We were incredibly lucky to have the input of an early years teacher with SEN experience, who kindly volunteered her time to help. With this, alongside Amey’s undeniable passion for helping children and adults with neurodiversity, we hope you find these Social Stories useful.
The structure is based on the ‘social stories’ layout which is commonly used in school settings and other professional organisations, so your children may be familiar with this format.
Alongside our Pet Packs, we have produced several of colouring sheets to help keep your little ones entertained.
Why not download these FREE printable sheets to use at home.
From everyone here at Vetsure, we truly hope you enjoy our Pet Packs as much as we do.
We always welcome feedback and we’d love to hear about your experiences with our Vetsure for Kids Pet Packs or Social Stories. Please get in touch with us and we will be happy to assist.
